Kelly Rintoule, Ryne Melcher and Gord Harthun take a walking lap in the early evening. Gord England went on to run the longest race of his life, over 100 miles.

Karin Westfahl, the leading woman for more than half of the race could not stay awake to meet the challenge of Aimee Runge (seen partly above) and Sherry McLean.
Lap Counters keep warm under the track-side shelter through the wee hours. At station 2 is Ottawa OUSer Susan Robertson-Baranick.

Linda Hodkin keeps moving as the dawn is breaking.

Fred Davis of Cleveland and Michel Voyer of Jonquiere QC solidify their 3rd and 2nd positions in the early morning light of the 23rd hour.  Fred was running his second consecutive weekend race of 100 miles or more - he would go on to do a third the following weekend.  Behind Michel in the large white T-shirt is Paul Smith of Montreal who was running his 17th consecutive SCMT Ottawa 24 Hour Run - he only missed the first one in 1981.
Charlie Upshall won the Sy Mah award for most even pacing over the first 100 miles, presented by Esmond Mah.  Charlie's second 50 miles was only 16 minutes slower than his first 50 miles.  Final standings of the top 7 men and top 7 women are shown on the leader board. (Molly Davies photo)
